University of A Coruña (UDC), CITIC - Centre for ICT Research OPEN MARIE SKŁODOWSKA CURIE DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS Id: 2024-C3-008 Title: Virtual Reality in Pediatric Surgical Care, Communication, and Education. Research and develop advanced scientific visualization and AR/VR technologies to benefit pediatric healthcare. This Ph.D. project will explore the potential of AR/VR technology to perform surgical planning, improve patient communication, and even help alleviate anxiety and pain in children. The Ph.D. researcher will work on developing state-of-the-art tools for creating advanced interactive volume rendering visualizations. The PhD candidate will also explore natural interfaces leveraging AR/VR technologies for analyzing complex pediatric medical data streams. This includes developing novel approaches for advanced scientific visualization in education, and helping narrative storytelling approaches for communicating healthcare data with patients. The recruited PhD researcher should also explore the applications of VR in the preoperative and postoperative phases, particularly studying how to tailor audiovisual content for children in AR/VR to create immersive experiences to reduce and alleviate preoperative anxiety and stress.
